The area is very poorly maintained and the cabin condition was a bit below average.

Thank you for your review Souvik. As the new owners we are working hard to get things cleaned up. We're sorry you did not enjoy your stay in 1 of our rustic cabins. We have 2 new cabins that were built this season. These new cabins would most likely be a better fit for you should you choose to stay with us again. All the best.

I think you need to understand the history of the lodge before you stay there. My room was in the first floor and the only room with a private bath. I could hear every word the staff was saying outside my room and the room above me I could hear every snore.

Thank you for your review Carol. Yes, knowing the history of the lodge is a plus especially if you love history and want to experience what it may have been like for those traveling this area in the early 1900's. We do offer ear plugs for those who are light sleepers.

Interesting Stay

There was a shared bathroom. That was inconvenient. but tolerable. The annoying part was there were no drinking glasses to be found, making it impossible to take medication and difficult to rinse after brushing teeth. That should be among the basics, along with tissues. which weren’t provided either!

Hello Carole. There are 2 shared bathrooms upstairs. In the bathroom between rooms 6 and 8 there are Dixie cups on the shelf. I wish you would have asked so we could have shown you. I apologize that there were none in the bathroom at the end of the hall. We will get those replenished. Thank you for your suggestion regarding tissue as well. We appreciate your feedback.

Rustic/quaint/funky/old

Historic lodge. My husband and I stayed for three nights in the three bedroom cabin, as it was the only place available at the time. There are not many options in this remote area. Despite its charm, there were some issues. There is peeling paint and exposed walls. The area is very quiet, especially at night. There are heaters in all of the rooms, so we were warm enough. We couldn’t get cell service on our phone, and the Wi-Fi was very unreliable. We couldn’t get the TV to work, so we went to the lobby to ask. We were told that it doesn’t work, but was left in the room for “aesthetics”. Two of the bedrooms have curtains instead of doors. The exposed hot water heater is in the hallway near the bathroom. We thought that there was no hot water in the kitchen sink, until we discovered that the faucets were mislabeled, and reversed. The beds were clean and comfortable, and there were enough blankets. This has gotten many positive reviews. It depends on one’s expectations. It is probably acceptable for people who are used to camping and/or roughing it. We felt that it was not up to the standards of some of the other hotels and lodges where we stayed on our Alaska trip.

Thank you for your review. We have noted the items that need to be addressed in your review so we can get them fixed. The TV works for those who have their own firestick but I am tempted to remove it entirely for next season. The "on demand" water heater is in the hallway, yes. We're sorry your stay didn't meet your expectations and we wish you all the best in your travels. Thank you for staying with us at the oldest continually running roadhouse in Alaska.

The place was falling apart. The cook was unavailable so the shut down the entire restaurant with a hand written note on the door they would be closed for 2 days. Our room had two doors that were not secure. The entire place was trashy. We checked out a day early, even if we loose the 2nd nights expense, I felt it better to leave.

Hello David. Thank you for your honest review. We're disappointed that your stay was less than expected. Yes, the lodge is in need of some repair and since we just bought the lodge last season we are working to make those repairs happen. Your room does have two doors. The second has been blocked off which leads into the lodge kitchen. Your main door has a skeleton key that you are able to lock from the inside or outside. We're terribly sorry that your stay fell on the only 2 days our cook was unavailable to work for us. Although I'm disappointed in the wording you chose to describe our lodge, I would have to strongly disagree. We are a rustic, historic lodge and we pride ourselves on having clean rooms in our establishment and we enjoy sharing this historic site with others. We do hope that you found accommodations more suited to your taste while staying in this wonderful state of Alaska
