Louisvillians are proud of their Frazier History Museum for its chronicling of their state’s integral past in the American framework. It’s also a stage for cultural and social events that happen daily. Walk into the museum named after its founder to become familiar with local, state and national history. The museum has a showcase of local artifacts and also depicts the importance Kentucky has had in the national and international structure of society. Discover the importance of exhibits by reading their explanations. Look for President Theodore Roosevelt’s original Big Stick that personified his foreign policy. Bows and arrows from Native American chief Geronimo are also on display. Travel with the Lewis and Clark Expedition in the early 19th-century exhibit that will take you across unexplored western portions of the country.

This Smithsonian affiliate is the official starting point of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Learn about the role Louisville played during the Prohibition era with a visit to an interactive speakeasy and bar that are part of the exhibit. Attend one of the daily live shows performed by staff actors and historians that showcase Kentucky’s role on the world stage. Visit the toy soldier gallery where visitors of all ages are encouraged to play with some of the 25,000 miniatures in the collection.

Three floors of the museum offer varied features including a gift shop, theater space, event rooms and a relaxing rooftop garden. To maintain a constant environment for the many artifacts, the museum is kept cool. Bring a jacket to stay comfortable.
