Hone your photography skills at this beach where the striking and unusual pink tinge to the sand makes for interesting vacation pictures.

Praia do Forno, or Forno Beach, is every bit as gorgeous as any of the other stretches of sand that make Búzios so popular with visitors. However, this beach also has a particularly special feature that sets it apart from the rest. Its sands are slightly pink in color, making for a beautiful contrast with the turquoise waters of the ocean. Be sure to take a camera with you when you visit this delightful spot, as you are certain to want to take photos.

“Forno” means “oven” in Portuguese. Pay a visit to the beach and you will soon begin to get some idea of where this name may have come from. The beach lies in a sheltered cove, meaning the air is still and hot. The pink color of the sand further adds to the sense of heat here. But of course, the sand’s color has nothing to do with its temperature. In reality, its distinctive color is due to the high concentration of iron it contains.

The beach offers lots to keep you occupied. The crystal-clear water is perfect for swimming or kayaking. Consider bringing a snorkeling mask so you can look out for marine life. As the waves here are usually small, this is a wonderfully safe destination for a family outing. Spend a full day here, taking advantage of the beach’s basic but useful facilities. Rent an umbrella and snack on treats from the kiosks throughout the day.

At one end of the beach is a protruding section of rock. Swim around it and you will discover a tiny, secluded beach, where the sand is a very deep red color.

When you are ready for a change of pace, leave Forno Beach and walk back to the lively heart of Búzios, Rua das Pedras. Reach the town’s charming main street in less than 25 minutes by foot. Watch one of the stunning sunsets for which the western edge of the peninsula is known. Then, in the morning, return to Forno Beach on the eastern side to do it all again.
