The eastern side of Albufeira’s main city beach is famous for its fishing boats, seafood restaurants and live entertainment shows. 

Just a short walk from the Old Town, Fisherman’s Beach (Praia dos Pescadores) is one of Albufeira’s busiest and most historic beaches. It has excellent dining experiences, markets, live music and water sports. Fisherman’s Beach takes its name from the fishing boats that once launched and moored here. While many have moved to Albufeira Marina, some boats remain and provide a reminder of the city’s fishing heritage.

During the summer months, this small stretch of sand fills up with locals and tourists alike. Sit on the sand or rent umbrellas and sun loungers. The azure-colored sea invites you to take a refreshing dip and try water sports such as parasailing and water-sled rides. Walk to the edge of the breakwater to enjoy views of the Old Town and the rugged cliffs above the adjacent Inatel Beach.

Set on a raised courtyard that overlooks the beach are bars and restaurants, which owe their beginnings to the city’s fishing traditions. Grab a front row seat and watch as the lively beach action unfolds below. Sample variations of typical Portuguese dishes, including bacalhau (cod) and cataplana seafood stew.

The vast Fisherman’s Square marks the entrance to the beach. It hosts concerts, dance shows, food markets and handicraft fairs. An escalator travels from the square’s northeastern corner to Pau da Bandeira Viewpoint. This lookout affords more impressive beach and Old Town views.

Túnel Beach makes up the western half of the main city beach. It’s accessible from the Old Town via an elevator and a tunnel dug out of the cliffs. Both beaches are beautiful at sunset, when the sun drifts down behind a headland.

Fisherman’s Beach is convenient to reach on foot from all areas of Albufeira’s city center. Parking is available, for a fee, in a large car park situated behind Pau da Bandeira Viewpoint. A tourist train operates from the lookout from June through September. It connects with Albufeira City Hall, The Strip nightlife zone and the Forte São João district.
