I would NOT recommend Riad Dar Ziryab
Posted 30 Oct 2023 on HotelsThe Riad building and grounds are in traditional Moroccan style and decor. Our room (Deluxe Suite) was quite spacious. We've stayed for 3 nights and our room was cleaned daily, bed linens and even the bathrobes were changed daily. This Riad is conveniently located in close proximity to a main street with many restaurants and cafes. That is all for the positive side.
On the negative side: The breakfast is terrible. Waiting time to get any food on your table is at least 30 min. The servers at the breakfast are the same young girls that clean the rooms (looks and feels like cheap labour). There are three dogs on the premisses that walk free and barking all night long. One of the nights we couldn't sleep at all because of these dogs. The Riad does offer a dinner menu, however the price is unreasonably hight. Walk 100 meters to a main street and you will pay fraction of that price. One more detail - Keep in mind that this Riad doesn't except credit cards.
The conclusion: I would NOT recommend Riad Dar Ziryab

The guy at the front desk was rather rude. He told us off for ringing the intercom a couple of times at arrival when it took multiple minutes to answer the door. Not sure why he did not use the intercom to ask us to wait or to buzz us in!
He then told us the city tax was €12 per room or 150MAD (which is 20MAD more than the price in euros at the current exchange rate) and refused to back down when we challenged this. He did however use a much more accurate exchange rate at checkout when charging for drinks. Furthermore the Moroccan tea was €3 pp and overboiled and very bitter.
The rooms were not very soundproofed and we could hear everyone talking and walking past in the corridor. The cleaning staff only came around after 5pm but did leave the room smelling very nice and replaced all the towels.

Beware
Posted 14 Jan 2019 on HotelsI have traveled the world, this is my first review. The Riad is nice, but beware. Our room was by the kitchen, so we heard the staff talking all night long . Our heater didn't work so we froze one night. Beware - when asked if you want a guide to take you through Fes. We took up the owner's offer, Jalil, to arrange for a guide. The guide Hasan, discouraged us from stopping where we wanted in the souks, rather took us to his spots. His spots were high pressure sales situations. We ended up overpaying/getting ripped off for a rug, that was our mistake. Don't cave on the pressure tactics. We learned from another guest that they all get paid (owner, guide, etc) on what you buy. The rug place overcharged us on our agreed upon price and when I sent Jalil an email for help, he ignored my request. I know he knows how to be helpful, but he ignored us. While the food is good, it is way overpriced. When I went to check out, his credit card machine didn't work, he told me to go the the bank to withdraw cash, problem is my cash limit wouldn't cover the bill. He was insistent. Sorry, it isn't my problem your credit card machine doesn't work. We were rushed to make a train, his machine finally worked, but urgh. Beware, get your own guide, there are 900 Riad's in Fes this isn't at the top, for sure!
