Praia Ferradura, or Ferradura Beach, is an idyllic crescent of sand on Búzios’ least busy coast, to the southwest. Located in one of the resort town’s wealthiest and most stylish neighborhoods, this glamorous beach is rumored to be a favorite with celebrities. It’s also an excellent place for a family day out. Bring or rent snorkeling masks and spend hours exploring the calm turquoise waters of this lovely cove.
The beach’s name, Ferradura, comes from the Portuguese word for “horseshoe.” And the beach is indeed shaped like a horseshoe. See it from above and the perfect balance of this curve of sand is quite breathtaking. Look at the gorgeous houses that line the beach and you will soon understand how in-demand this neighborhood is. This part of Búzios has long been considered one of its most upscale areas.
Bring the kids when you come to Ferradura Beach. You will find plenty of different ways to keep them entertained here. Take advantage of the stillness of the water by going sailing, kayaking or just swimming. Look for colorful fish at either end of the beach, where there are high concentrations of marine life. At certain times of year, whales can even be spotted further out into the sea.
The sun in Búzios is very powerful, so keep cool underneath one of the beach umbrellas available along the strip of sand, and pick up cold drinks from one of the kiosks. Although Ferradura Beach is located on the quieter side of the peninsula, the town center is not too far away. Walk to Rua das Pedras, the town’s bustling main street, in roughly half an hour.
Ferradura Beach is strikingly beautiful in any month, but its character changes depending on what time of year it is. Visit close to Christmas Day or Carnaval to find it at its most energetic, filled with people of all ages. Between April and August, the beach will often be more peaceful, making it the perfect place to simply relax with a good book.
