Farallones de Cali National Natural Park is an unspoiled set of lush mountains, rivers and valleys with a rich history that complements its spectacular scenery. During the drawn-out armed conflict of the Farc guerilla movement, the park was dangerous and visitors were not allowed to enter. Arrive at El Topacio Environmental Education Center, a former coffee farm that serves as a welcome center. As you meander along the various paths on the hilly terrain, spot the wild chickens, parrots and eagles that inhabit this national park. You may even see anteaters and spectacled bears, along with monkeys and koala-like marsupials. Chat with your guide about the turbulent history of the park, which was closed at the height of the Farc’s activity.

Note that the park comprises a mountain range in the West Andes. Many of its rivers provide water and power to Cali. Prepare for the cold peaks by wearing extra layers that you can easily take off in the warm valleys.
