Falmouth is one of the most beloved resort towns in Massachusetts. Jutting between Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound, it has the most coastline of all the Cape Cod towns. Enjoy all the recreation the seashore offers and spend a lazy day in one of its 11 picturesque harbors.
Browse the shops and sample the restaurants located along Main Street. Cedar shake buildings and a distinct lack of chain stores give this street an old-town charm.
Venture out to Nobska Point, which divides Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound. Take a tour through Nobska Light. From the white lighthouse, you can see Martha’s Vineyard and Nonamessett Island beyond.
Step back in time at Falmouth Museums on the Green. A compound of historic buildings clustered around the town’s green has been converted into museums. See how families lived here centuries ago and learn about Falmouth’s history.
Get lost in the natural beauty of Spohr Gardens and the adjacent Oyster Pond. Walk along the flower- and tree-lined paths of this peaceful public garden.
Pack up your bathing suit and your beach towel and visit one or all of Falmouth’s 10 beaches. If you’re looking for convenience, Surf Drive Beach is the closest to Falmouth’s town center. Old Silver Beach offers calm waters, plenty of shoreline and stunning views across Buzzards Bay.
Woods Hole is easily the quaintest village within Falmouth. Watch the coming and going of fishing boats in its harbor or check out its famously charming houseboats and cottages. Everything is within a two block radius, so Woods Hole is a great place to explore by foot.
Learn about the ocean around you at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This renowned marine research institution also features interactive exhibits and a small aquarium.
Martha’s Vineyard is located just a few miles across Vineyard Sound. Take a ferry to the island from Falmouth Harbor or Woods Hole. Spend a day exploring its cozy inns, unspoiled beaches and rambling estates.
Like the rest of Cape Cod, Falmouth is a vacationer’s paradise. If you come during the summer, expect lots of visitors who are also there to enjoy its many charms.
