See monumental installations and exclusive Russian art in the biggest contemporary museum in Russia.

Opening its doors in September 2010 after a 4-year spectacular renovation of a Stalin-era building, the Erarta Museum consists of five floors filled with art. Wander through the largest private museum in Russia that contains over 2,300 works by more than 170 artists.

Representing artists from all regions of Russia and expressing various generations and trends, the museum is continually adding to its already large collections of paintings, graphics, sculptures, objects and installations. Explore the museum’s selection of both temporary and permanent exhibitions.

Take part in one of the museum’s special projects. These popularize art and encourage guests to immerse themselves in the creative process. As the museum’s mission is to bring people closer to contemporary art, this is the best way to experience Erarta Museum.

There are many interactive exhibits which are also child-friendly. Experience some of the most notable permanent exhibitions including U-Space, an installation which submerges viewers in a particular work to experience specific emotions. Art-Animation takes the viewer beyond the frames of paintings to the realm of fully drawn out stories while Theatre With No Actors is a multimedia play using the characters of the paintings of artist Elena Figurina. Keep in mind that some exhibits are not included in the regular admission price.

Since its opening, Erarta Museum has hosted over 800 concerts, lectures, plays and film screenings. There is almost always some kind of special event happening every night. Check the museum’s website to keep up-to-date with what’s happening including annual events such as the Erarta Motion Pictures, a film festival exploring short films about painting and CROSS ART, a festival dedicated to the synthesis of arts.

Take a guided group tour offered by the museum. It is recommended that bookings for English guided tours are made in advance through the website. Alternatively, take yourself on an individual audio tour, also offered by the museum. Stop by the gift shop on the first floor and purchase unique souvenirs designed by Erarta, original handicrafts and decorative items.

Only a short distance away from most locations on Vasilievsky Ostrov, including St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Nevsky Prospect area, Erarta Museum is accessible by bus, tram or taxi and also has on-site parking.
