Englishman River Falls Provincial Park

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park which includes a river or creek

Admire the plumes of water cascading from two waterfalls plunging down a deep canyon flanked by mossy rocks and verdant cedar and maple forests.

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park contains the stunning twin waterfalls that leap from the Englishman River into a deep pool, which is perfect for cooling off on a warm summer’s day. Hike through the forest and along the banks of the river or relax in the quiet forest surroundings. Camp overnight and fall asleep with the sound of the river flowing by.

Explore nearly 2 miles (3 kilometers) of well-maintained walking tracks when you visit this idyllic nature reserve. Wind your way through Douglas firs, cedar, hemlock, maple and arbutus in the old-growth and second-growth forests. Follow the Englishman River and take in gorgeous views of the canyon and the upper and lower waterfalls as you stroll. On the main trail, you’ll pass over the river in two spots. Peer down into the water rushing below your feet and watch it course through the narrow canyon into the tranquil pools further down. Photograph the magnificent waterfalls tumbling over the rugged rock formations.

At the base of the lower falls, you’ll find a calm pool fringed with a rocky beach. If the weather is warm, go for a swim in the pristine waters and then stretch out on the pebbles to dry off in the sun.

The park’s large day-use area has picnic tables and a viewing platform overlooking the river. Spread out a picnic and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the shade of the forest. Find out about the park’s flora and fauna by reading the information signposts.

You can camp overnight within the scenic campsites in forest glades. Vehicle-accessible campsites are also available. Visit in the fall to view salmon spawning upstream in the clear waters.

Englishman River Falls Provincial Park is located near Errington and Nanaimo in south-central Vancouver Island. Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Cathedral Grove and the Pacific Rim are a short drive away. Camping is not permitted in winter and there is a fee per night. Public restrooms are available at the day-use area and parking lot. The park is free to visit at any time of the year.
