Relax and rejuvenate your body at Elizabeth's Spa, a retreat set in a grand chateau-style building overlooking Smetana Park. Go for a swim in the pool and take your pick from any of the 60 spa treatments and programs, including a beer massage.
The spa opened in 1906 and is named after Empress Elizabeth, wife of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. Before going inside, admire the building’s handsome art nouveau façade. In front of the entrance is a fountain and a figure of a nude girl, created by Czech sculptor Břetislav Benda in 1963.
Head over to the swimming complex for a few laps of the 82-feet (25-meter) heated freshwater swimming pool. Then sit in the relaxation pool and let the jets of water massage your body. The pool area also includes a whirlpool, wading pool and separate sauna and steam rooms for men and women.
Pamper yourself with one or more of the spa’s diverse treatment options. Soak in a hot mineral water bath enriched with herbal extracts or opt for an Indian head massage. Other popular wellness options include peat pack treatments in which natural peat mixed with hot mineral water is spread onto various areas of the body. This is designed to alleviate chronic joint and muscle pain.
If you’re ready for a meal or a snack, head to the restaurant at the front of the building. Find a spot on the lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the lush landscape of Smetana Park. Save time to explore the surrounding park after visiting the spa.
Find Elizabeth's Spa in Smetana Park, in the northern area of Karlovy Vary. It can be reached via a scenic 1-mile (1.6 kilometer) walk from the town center or by public bus. There are no parking facilities at the spa. Many visitors choose to purchase one of the spa’s combination tickets, which allows access to swimming pool, relaxation pool, sauna and steam room.
