Watch a dramatic performance or musical recital from a balcony in this majestic theater packed with Moorish motifs and stylish features.

El Gran Teatro Falla is a 19th-century structure in the heart of the Old Town of Cádiz. Located on the site of its previous incarnation, the theater is built in the Neo-Mudéjar style with red bricks and grand arches. Select a performance from dances, plays, operas and other spectacles in this iconic theater.

Capture photos of this spectacular building, with its red and white pattern, rose windows and other intricate facets. Palm trees flank the sides of this theater, which has an Arabic Spanish style.

Enter through one of the large portals to find yourself in the spacious vestibule, which has a 1920s design. The hall has stairways leading to the main auditorium, which has a stage that is 59 feet (18 meters) wide and 84 feet (26 meters) deep.

Watch a dance or musical performance from one of the red chairs lined up across the floor and surrounding golden balconies of the theater. The auditorium has stall boxes, mezzanine boxes and an upper stand. Examine the Moorish motifs decorating the walls of the theater. Gaze up at the modern chandelier that hangs over the seats.

Attend the artistic competitions and recitals that take place during the annual Carnival of Cádiz at the end of February or beginning of March. Inspect the works of art on display during exhibitions.

Note that the theater takes its name from local composer Manuel de Falla, who blended Andalusian folk music and flamenco. He is generally considered among Spain’s most important 20th-century musicians. The complex was built on the spot of a former wooden theater that burned down.

El Gran Teatro Falla is in the northwestern part of the Old Town district. It is a short walk from the sea and the Parque Genovés. Visit nearby attractions, such as the Plaza de San Antonio, the Santo Ángel Custodio Church and the Museo de las Cortes.
