On the upside a very central location and warm spacious apartment. The street local in this part of Dublin is scruffy and a little edgy. While we were very pleased overall with the apartment there were a few omissions which would have made it more of a home from home ie -the apartment was missing a teapot and bread knife -two pretty essential kitchen items and there are no hooks to hang towels in the bathrooms. The auto door shutting mechanisms were too strong resulting in difficulty forolder people and banging doors.

The best thing about this was location. Walking distance to Guinness, brazen head, Jameson and a few cathedrals.

The property was a decent size. Unfortunately the decor was a bit warm, the floor was pretty dirty, and everything was just a bit below what was expected.

I liked space and access to amenities, privacy as well as feeling of being in some neighborhood rather than isolated tourist in the hotel.

what we liked: comfortable bed, very clean, excellent location (we didn't go there but you can walk to the Guinness tour in five minutes), help for finding the place was available late at night (delayed due to Ryan Air). what we didn't like: directions to find the place were TERRIBLE. There is NO sign anywhere that says "St. James Apartments". There IS a sign on the entry door that says "Hanbury Mews". That would have been VERY helpful information to know! We had to ask the person on the phone if that was the right door, we were on the phone several minutes and this information was never divulged to us, there is no house number outside. This was on a very dark street which made it even harder to find our way around. We wasted a few euros and 15 minutes of everyone's time (including the cab driver) trying to find this place... in the rain. Also: the edge of the shower/tub is VERY high, it was not a little dangerous stepping out of it. Finally... maybe nobody cooks for themselves when visiting in Dublin? Because the kitchen - while it was spacious and had a dishwasher, ample counter space, oven, etc - was furnished with the bare minimum of plates (4), cups (4), and utensils. There were NO cooking condiments whatsoever, we would have had to furnish salt and oil and sugar and all that little stuff on our own. I guess that's one way to keep the kitchen clean, by discouraging people from actually using it... Would we stay here again? I suppose, now that we know how to find it...

The apartment was clean and easy to find, very close to the Guiness storehouse. However, the bathroom had an odd mildew-ish smell, and the noise in the alley was almost nonstop, day and night.

Liked the space and decoration. Didn't like the small toilet area and no rails to hang the wet towels out.
