Great Place

Posted 16 Jan 2018 on Hotels
A very nice family owned hotel! The views are awesome but some comfortable cushions would be a nice addition to the deck chairs. We saw many birds from our deck. The rooms are very clean. The breakfast was very good. The stairs may be hard if you are not in shape. This is a great place to stay.

Traveler BEWARE

Posted 31 Jul 2017 on Orbitz
Cons: Be honest with your customers. Amazing the poor experience with this hotel.
If you are looking at this hotel as an option at Drake Bay, click return and look elsewhere. We attempted to reach the hotel after driving for >4 hrs from San Jose to find that there is no passage by land. To reach the hotel, one is required to take a boat for 1 hour on high seas. This was never disclosed at the time of the booking or the fact that the customer needs pay for parking fees at the dock and for the boat ride. Watch for hidden fees. The boat is not affiliated to the hotel so you are on your own. If you are willing to risk your life and that of your family then this is the place for you. Unfortunately, we do not travel by boat/ocean so we turned around. When we requested a full refund, the hotel went silent and stopped all communications with us. We are working with Orbitz who has graciously offered a refund and instructed hotel to disclose transportation options.

Clean and pleasant

Posted 24 May 2017
Pros: OK
Cons: The hotel sits 112 steps above street level. Only those physically fit should stay there.
Location: Forget Drake Bay and go to Puerta Jimmenez. Much cheaper and friendlier.
The hotel and staff were fine. Drake Bay in general is too tourist oriented and overpriced. Not into herd mentality.

Loved the beautiful cabin, gorgeous view, delicious breakfast and fantastic owner and staff. Took the best snorkel tour, and loved the local restaurants!

Cool cabin with a view

Posted 23 Jan 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Lovely relaxed setting with characterful cabins. Mauricio was very friendly and helpful by email before we arrived and when we were there.
Cons: This accommodation setting is up a number of fairly steep steps with other slightly less steep steps around the corner which may not suit everyone.
Location: Great location close to the beach in Drake Bay. Corcovado hiking trips, snorkelling offshore, kayaking, SUP, horse rides and other activities.
Las Cotingas is in a great location just up from the beach where you arrive by boat and a short walk to restaurants & shops. The location is up overlooking the stunning bay. We loved the rustic style cabins with ocean view set in nice tropical gardens. We were in a 'partial view' cabin which had a good view with lovely veranda and hammock. The room was spacious with fridge, fans, locker and powerful shower. There is also a common covered sitting area which has a full baywide vista that you can use with wi-fi and where breakfast is served. Breakfast options are eggs, lovely pancakes, fruit and coffee. Free coffee available all the time. Staff are friendly and had helped us book trips before we arrived and transport when we were there. Drake Bay is small and relaxed with a great vibe. Well worth the trip here to see Corcovado and would recommend staying here.

Convenient friendly place with amazing view

Posted 31 Oct 2016 on Hotels
Perfect place to stay if you are up for an average Costa Rican room standard in this price segment. The room was clean and got cleaned well every day. Large fridge for storing your drinks etc. The view is simply fantastic if you get an ocean view room and we ended up spending more time than usual on the terrace, watchin a variety of birds and also some monkeys that came up close. The breakfast at 3500 CRC is rather disappointing, unfortunately (we have had better for 2000 on the road). Some other prices for additional in-hotel services also seemed rather high (eg. laundry), but if you don't need those, all is good here.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!

Pros: Deck, views, room was great
Cons: The bathroom could be cleaner, and some cobwebs up high. Maybe if the wifi signal was stronger too.
Location: trails going into the jungle, there's a shoreline trail and another technical one going up the river before you cross the suspension bridge. snorkelin
Yes, it's a hike up there but they carried our bags. I want to go back and stay longer. The ocean view room was so NEAT with gorgeous view from deck and gorgeous jungle garden. Hanging on the deck was one of the best parts of our 2 week trip to Costa Rica!
