KEX was clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view of the harbor and within easy walking distance from downtown shopping and dining venues. We stayed while they were under construction but the construction machinery didn't start until after normal breakfast hours so all was OK. Looking forward to seeing KEX once all the renovations are complete.

Everything was really clean, organized, and staff was friendly, but a warning about how the hostel is in between construction would’ve been nice to know I walked past it a few times

first time in a hostel.
pros: 24/7 front desk made me feel safe, they’re friendly. good location, walkable about 10-15 minutes to downtown reykjavík! lots of common areas to enjoy. bunk felt private with a lamp, shelf, small storage. hung my blanket up for more privacy (i was on the bottom bunk)
cons: property/bathroom did not feel very clean. i’d bring shower shoes and extra bedding if i were to come back. also towels are $7 USD for a warning.

Got a shared-room bunk bed. They had privacy curtains to block light which was nice.
There was road work being done right in front of the hostel (Sept 2024) so it wasn’t that quiet. Also that made finding P3 parking a bit more challenging because I had to find somewhere else.
Do note that it’s pretty barebones in terms of what is provided, no soap/shampoo in the showers, no towel provided.
The price is right, so I’m not counting that as a negative, but more something to keep in mind.
The common area was really nice, they put a lot of effort into making it cozy.
