Take some time away in this hidden beach paradise where you can swim, have a peaceful picnic or go for long walks through coastal landscapes.

Explore the Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park to find a calm, shady beach with plenty to do. This protected strip of coastland is home to a number of native animal species and provides spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico. Bring your swimsuit, walking shoes and a picnic and spend a day discovering the delights of this natural wonderland.

Opened in 1976, Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park was named after Joe Wiggins, who documented the area as early as the 1800s. On the west side of this 166-acre (67-hectare) park you’ll find a clean sandy beach on the ocean. On the east side are the Cocohatchee River and a collection of swamplands and tidal creeks.

Sunbathe and swim year-round in the temperate Florida climate. The white-sand beach is well-maintained and the water is a great temperature for swimming, kayaking or snorkeling around the coastal reef. Rent beach umbrellas, chairs and swimming equipment from the nearby concession stand.

Get in touch with nature with a relaxing coastal walk down the beach. Collect shells that wash ashore and look for seabirds and turtles that populate the area. Visit early in the morning for the best chance of seeing dolphins that feed over shallow sandbars close to the shore. Be sure to stay on the boardwalks that take you over hummocks of coastal land in order to ensure their protection.

Take your pets for a fun run and try some peaceful fishing, but make sure you stay in designated areas. Fish in the adjacent Cocohatchee River for sports fish and watch overhead for soaring bald eagles that frequent the area.

Bring a picnic for the family and enjoy a meal in the shade. Tables and bathrooms are provided to ensure your comfort while you enjoy a gorgeous view of the sea.

The Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park charges an entry fee for each vehicle and provides ample parking space. It is open between dawn and dusk year-round.
