Study the abstract face and wheel-like headdress of this magnified replica of an Iberian bust, made up of an iridescent blue mosaic.

La Dama Ibérica is a remarkable work of art created by the Spanish sculptor Manolo Valdés and composed of dark blue ceramics that shimmer in the sunlight. It is inspired by the Lady of Elche, an Iberian artifact from the 4th century B.C. with an intriguing headdress. Spot the large circles along the sides of the sculpture, with the Estadi Nou Mestalla sports arena in the background.

Walk up to the structure and appreciate its sheer size. Installed in 2007, the public work of art is 59 feet (18 meters) tall and dominates the center of a large roundabout near the Beniferri metro stop. Once you move closer, appreciate the 22,000 dark blue geometric pieces that create a glimmering mosaic over a metal substructure, which is supported by a gray podium.

The piece is a three-part sculpture, comprising two sides that resemble wheels and a central rectangular representation of a face. Look up photos of the original Iberian sculpture of the Lady of Elche and consider how the modern artwork’s shapes provide a large abstract version of the initial bust. Snap photos of the immense piece, with the white towers opposite the sports stadium creating a busy backdrop.

Stroll down the iconic Avinguda de les Corts Valencianes to see this blue emblem from a greater distance and notice how it fits in with the street’s architecture. The avenue is lined by towers and trade centers. Embrace the lively atmosphere by visiting some of the many restaurants and cafés. Look around the shops for a selection of souvenirs and the latest in fashion.

Find La Dama Ibérica sculpture in the Benicalap district of northwestern Valencia. Take the metro to the Beniferri station beside the statue or ride the tram to the Garbí stop and walk west for less than 10 minutes to get here.

Stay in the area to visit other nearby attractions such as Parc de Benicalap, the Hipercor Ademuz shopping center and the Palacio de Congresos de Valencia.
