The best Hotel Staff around!
Posted 28 Aug 2015
Pros: The staff members were all wonderful -- and resourceful.
Cons: Softer beds. This is not a luxury hotel, but a solid economical one.
Location: Close to city center.
The room was fine -- small, but clean. On the downside the bed was hard, and there was a fair amount of noise. There is no air conditioning or heater -- but the weather was moderate.
The hotel is within close walking distance to the city center. But on the much bigger plus side, is that on both days my Expedia booked tour companies let me down, but the caring staff at Chankana Hotel (Hostel) went above and beyond to help salvage my entire trip!
The second day of my trip the Chankana staff earned my MVHS (Most Valuable Hotel Staff Award)! I had previously booked and confirmed an all-inclusive trip through Expedia to Machu Picchu (the purpose of my trip), but the tour company that was supposed to pick me up at 5:30 A.M.-- "No-showed."
The staff spent tremendous time trying to reach the flakey tour company, but my time was running out. Finally the owner got on the phone and started calling around to other tour operators to see if I could still make it to Machu Picchu. A tour operator the owner knew personally came to the hotel and helped me (do the almost impossible at that point) -- piece together a ltrip.
I left Cusco at noon, but I had a glorious quick trip to one of the seven new wonders of the world! -- the Chakana Hotel Staff (and their contacts) saved my trip!

Chakana
Posted 6 Mar 2014The stay was not as bad as it would seem. You are about a 15 minute walk from the center plaza but its a large uphill walk. The hotel is small but similar to others. The staff know the distance makes it hurt to attract guests so they work twice as hard to help with anything they can. Downfall was that they do their own handyman work like most in Cusco and we lost hot water for two days and cable for a night. Overall though i would stay here again because of the staff alone!

Good for the price -- really, really great staff
Posted 31 Aug 2013 on HotelsThis is an older hotel and at this price is about what you'd expect. Where the place really shines is the staff -- just really nice and helpful people that do everything possible to make your stay go smoothly. Nohemi is "A1" and really knows the city. Also hats off to Hermehinda -who makes sure breakfast is perfect, Tiny little Angehca who does everything at double speed, Joule, Paul and JR. They really made getting to Macchu Picchu easier.

Personalet var utrolig hjælpsomme.
Det største problem var at der ikke var varmt vand.
