Could it be Covid?
Posted 14 Aug 2020 on HotelsThere was very little enthusiasm or welcome when we arrived after 7 hours on the road. The stand alone air conditioning made it impossible to sleep.
The space itself is ideal and as we had been there before, we were happy to return, however... Maybe Covid is hard on the owner and made him a bit grumpy.

I’m sorry the you didn’t receive as effusive a greeting as you felt warranted. There was a heat warning that day – it was 34C with a humidex reading in the mid 40s. I had been working in the gardens all afternoon so may have been a little tired. I have also found that in the current climate guests want to spend as little time as possible socializing with people outside of their bubble and prefer to be taken straight to their rooms which you were. The next time I saw you was when you came down outraged at the fact there was no central air-conditioning. I must say you are the first people in six years of operation who thought there would be central air conditioning in a 206 year-old heritage-designated Inn. What’s even odder is the fact that you were return guests and don’t seem to have noticed the radiators in every room. It’s a useful reminder that you should check the amenities on a property before making a reservation.
There are portable AC units in all the bedrooms. In the main Inn there are window units. In the apartment unit you booked, the windows are too narrow to accept window units so there are stand alone units. The apartment has been heavily booked all summer and you are the first guests to complain about the noise of the units. I have the same unit in my room and sleep soundly. Once again, if central air is a requirement of your travel comfort, please check the amenities before booking.
You pose the question of whether or not it might be Covid. Well, like many others in the hospitality industry, I’m sure it has affected me. Having all revenue stopped for four months does raise anxiety levels. Reopening for the summer with a 70% reduction in guests also tends to be unsettling. Facing up to the fact, that at age 70, you may not only lose your business but also your home does have a dampening effect on your mood. You may call it “grumpy.” I think stress would be a more appropriate characterization.

The host went beyond the call of duty to accommodate a dietary requirement.

Charming and mostly comfortable but . . .
Posted 13 Sep 2019 on HotelsComfortable beds, good bathroom and charming in it's historical character, except for the living room furnishings, but coffee creamer was not provided and TV only played old VHS tapes and DVDs which were very limited. No local cable TV provided.

Thanks Paul. In the future it might be useful to look at the amenities before you book accommodations. In the six years it's been open the Inn has never had cable tv. It is not a secret and is noted on the Inn's website and OTA listings. If watching television is an important part of your travel plans. I would suggest booking at a motel or hotel that offers a hundred channels.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay at the Inn. All of the coffee here is ground fresh and made in a French press. Guests who would like it at other times have only to ask. There are also a number of fine coffee shops within a block for those who wish to visit them. Sorry but we are not a "self-service" kind of establishment.....

Beautiful property...we were told it is the oldest original inn in Ontario, and I'm sure that's true. If you enjoy old architecture, you have to stay here. Breakfast was top notch, as if the proprietor, Robert, was a top notch chef in a past life.
