We had a lovely stay here at the start of October '24 - the hotel has got a young, modern, industrial vibe throughout. There are definitely Pros and Cons with this hotel - but Pros absolutely outweigh the Cons:- Pros: 1.The staff are so lovely, welcoming, attentive and professional - they're just fantastic. 2.The location of the hotel is pretty good for the city centre. 3.The rooms are decent size and are clean and modern. 4.The beds are unbelievably comfortable. 5.The food in the restaurant is excellent quality, delicious and decent sized portions. 6.The showers in the en-suite have got really decent pressure and nice toiletries 7. Sophie's Restaurant has a lovely covered terrace, with a great views to the Port of Cork and the rest of the city. Cons: 1.No wardrobes in the bedrooms - but coat hooks and hangers, are provided. 2.No room safes - so you have to leave all of your valuables in your locked luggage or you have to carry them with you - not ideal for a long stay. 3.Breakfast choices (for us) were a little bit limited - there are about 16 predefined choices, which were all cooked to order(they were delicious). However, individuals items such as toast and other cooked items(sausages, hash browns etc) didn't appear to be available unless they were part of one of the predefined choices. This may not have been the case but it didn't seem like we could just order 'off menu'. 4.The weekends are busy and noisy - not great if you want to chill and relax at the weekend.

‘The Dean’ is an unusual hotel. I think it’s a hotel. There are bedrooms and showers but it doesn’t call itself a hotel. It’s more a concept, I guess, possibly designed by AI. The building itself looks like a misshapen lump of coal. The reception area borrows from high street retail with elements of a leisure centre. The reception desk is like the merchandise stand at a concert. The decor throughout is dark with lots of geometric patterns. Don’t go if you’re susceptible to migraines. Our bedroom seemed to be aiming to copy the inside of a metal shipping container. Except it wasn’t rectangular. There was a triangular desk to fit into it. If the designer was aiming for quirkiness in the room he/she/AI got it. There was a record turntable and 2 strange LPs (charity shop I’d guess) on the desk so no room to use it as an actual desk. But the range of purchasable stuff in the room was amazing: bathrobes and about 40 items of food / drink. And there was a free condom!! No wardrobe though and only one chair to sit and consume all the goodies. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. The staff were all super friendly and helpful.

Hi Peter,Many thanks for your feedback. I am sorry to note you didn't love our decor and vibes, but I appreciate it's not to everyone's tastes. At The Dean we follow a motto - ‘We don’t do conventional, We do Fun’ which extends to the Décor, Atmosphere, Staff and all aspects of your experience. We hope to welcome you back!

Still at the early stage of redevelopment of the area. Parking not yet open, and the ones around are not easy to find and to get to.

Hi Raymond,Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately we do not have our own car park, however we do have listed online that we have a discounted over night rate with Merchants Quay Car Park (10min walk from us) with guaranteed spaces. We are also situated next to the Kent Railway Station which provides X2 Car Parks, one is open 24 hours right next to us and the other is gated and closes at 10pm all at a rate of 9.50euro per 24 hours, one of the best rates you will find in the city. Our Team on Front Desk are at your assistance for anything and are more then happier to help you with directions and any extra info needed :)We do hope to see you again very soon !

This is the third time I’m leaving a review, but apparently Expedia doesn’t want me to rate this property badly so it keeps taking me round and round and round. Don’t book here!

Great hotel, very modern. Restaurant Sophie's has great food, room service was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had a car, so there is paid parking at the train station, however depending on the time you arrive there may be very limited parking, but it was definitely a better option than trying to stay in central Cork, it was all very central and you could easily walk to things. Would go back to this hotel if I am ever back in Cork!
