Watch planes land and take off right next to you and explore the history of aviation at this museum, located on the grounds of College Park Airport.

The College Park Aviation Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and science of flight. It is part of the world’s oldest continuously operating airport in College Park, Maryland. Inspect vintage airplanes and learn about the early days of air travel.

College Park Airport was founded in 1909 as a place to instruct the first military aviators. These pilots were instructed by none other than Wilbur Wright, who along with his brother Orville, invented the world’s first successful airplane.

The museum is home to a variety of antique and reproduction aircraft. Take a look at the replica of a 1910 Wright Model B, which was the first of the Wright brothers’ designs to be built in large quantities. Examine a 1941 Boeing-Stearman Model 75, a fierce little plane that was used heavily during World War II.

Explore the history of aviation through a variety of interactive exhibits. The museum frequently hosts special events, lectures and workshops for the public. If you want to learn more, visit the on-site library which has archives relating to the history of the airport, early aviation and air travel in Maryland.

The museum is located right next to the airport’s runway. Peer through the huge glass windows for a close-up view of planes taking off and landing while you peruse the museum’s exhibits.

The museum does not have any indoor eating facilities. However, you are welcome to make use of the picnic tables on the outdoor balcony.

College Park Aviation Museum is open 7 days a week throughout the year, excluding major holidays. There is a small admission fee. The museum is just a 5-minute walk to the College Park Metro, which easily connects you to other destinations in the metro area. It is located just 10 miles (16 kilometers) outside of Washington, D.C.
