The rooftop terrace has stunning vistas of central Madrid, while the interior is a hub of the arts, from music and poetry events to lectures and science exhibits.

Dating back to the late 19th century, the Círculo de Bellas Artes is an iconic cultural center in the heart of Madrid. Recognizable by its tall, white tower, the structure has exhibition halls, concert auditoriums and a library, among other facilities. Ride the elevator to the seventh story for some of the best views in the city.

Once on the rooftop terrace, appreciate the marvelous views and spot some of your favorite city highlights, including the Iglesia San José and the Edificio Metrópolis. In the distance, you’ll see mountains rising from the outer edges of Madrid. Relax with a hot drink at one of the tables surrounded by this spectacular scenery. On summer nights enjoy cocktails in this lively setting.

You can also hang out with friends at the other bar in the building and revel in the relaxed and bohemian vibe. On the ground floor, the café has a more refined ambiance. Chat with the staff about the latest activities and attend the various musical concerts and poetry readings.

Watch short films and peruse the works of art on display in the exhibitions. Varied classes, lectures and workshops also take place in this cultural stalwart, which has survived funding struggles for more than a century. Attend the annual Masquerade Ball that usually takes place toward the end of February.

The cultural center’s current building was designed by Spanish architect Antonio Palacios and built in 1926. There is a fee to access the rooftop terrace, which is open daily from morning until past midnight.

To reach the Círculo de Bellas Artes, ride the metro to the Banco de España station in the heart of the city. You can also get a bus to a stop on the adjacent street. While you’re in the area, check out neighboring sights such as the Teatro Cofidis Alcázar, the Grassy Clock and Watch Museum and the Iglesia San José.
