The Círculo de Artistas (Artists Society) is a gorgeous building facing the northern end of the Plaza del Socorro. This captivating end of town is enriched by a fascinating history that is central to Andalucía’s regional heritage. Spend some time admiring the pretty building from the square. Designed by the modernist architect Pedro Alonso Gutierrez, the building was officially opened in 1903 and soon became a landmark on the cultural map. Blas Infante held the inaugural Andalusian Assembly here in 1918, an event that gave the Andalucista politician the title “Father of Andalucía.” Imagine how the building would have appeared on this date when Andalucía’s new regional flag was unfurled in front of a celebrating crowd.

Enter the building and explore its interiors. You’ll find a plaque dedicated to the first Andalusian Assembly on the ground floor. Explore the book collection within the building, which is one of Ronda’s four libraries.

The patio of the Círculo de Artistas is the stage for regular cultural events, performances and concerts. Visit the patio in the evening to see vivid performances of flamenco, as well as other song and dance recitals. Watch the passionate poise of the dancers and hear the irresistible beat of the music.

The Círculo de Artistas is located on the northern border of the Plaza del Socorro in the heart of Ronda’s historic center. It faces the stunning white-and-yellow façade of the Nuestra Señora del Socorro Church. The charming square is lined with bars, restaurants and cafés. Grab a seat in a café with outdoor terraces that open up into the plaza and enjoy a meal with fantastic views of the historic area. Parking is available at the plaza however, the area is best explored on foot. The Círculo de Artistas is free to visit.
