Step foot into a tropical oasis at Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens and see wildlife from all over the world. More than 500 animals from nearly 200 species live on 21 acres (8.5 hectares) that also feature a splash ground and aerial adventure course.
As you walk through the grounds you’ll encounter leopards, cheetahs, crocodiles and many types of birds and amphibians. Go to the herpetarium to see the large collection of venomous snakes. For a small additional fee, feed the giraffes or ride on a camel. Take the children in your party over to Barnyard Buddies Children's Zoo where they can pet goats, llamas and alpacas. Explore the Massey Services Insect Zoo and see bugs from numerous countries including scorpions, centipedes and Madagascan hissing cockroaches.
During the weekends and public holidays, attend some of the keeper chats that take place at various exhibits. Enjoy the opportunity to learn more about warthogs, giraffes and snakes and watch crocodiles being fed. Visit the zoo’s website for details of when and where the chats take place.
When you want a break from walking, enjoy a ride aboard the miniature train that passes through woods and wetlands.
Away from the plant and animal life, the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Garden has a number of attractions to keep the entire family entertained. Swing across a zip line or climb from tree to tree on a rope bridge at the ZOOm Air Adventure Park. Play a game of outdoor laser tag at Battlefield Live Orlando and walk on water inside a large transparent ball. These amusements attract an additional charge. Let the children cool down at the free Wharton-Smith Tropical Splash Ground.
Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Garden is open every day except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Children under two years of age get in for free. Reach the attraction by taking a taxi or driving the 23 miles (37 kilometers) from downtown Orlando. On-site parking is free.
