Castellar de la Frontera is a town in the province of Cádiz, 75 miles from the city of Cádiz. The town is known for the fortress of Castellar Viejo, an Arab fortress built in the 13th century that played an important role in defending the Muslim-ruled taifa kingdoms thanks to its strategic location, at the top of a hill. It has an irregular floor plan enclosed by a wall with a number of smaller buildings within.
The fortress can be found in the Los Alcornocales Nature Park, which spans some 420,000 acres.
