Bring the kids to the playgrounds and cafés in this dynamic, rejuvenated coastal area in the shadow of a mossy mountain.

Sea Point is a lively and eclectic suburb on a narrow stretch of land along the ocean, in the shadow of the Signal Hill mountain. The suburb contains many modern bars and cafés that have sprung up in recent years. Stroll along the picturesque beachfront promenade for a sense of the busy atmosphere near the water.

The paved walkway of this coastal esplanade is the heart of the neighborhood. Join the joggers and walkers and enjoy views of the ocean. Go cycling or skateboarding along the boulevard from Bantry Bay to Mouille Point.

Work on your tan at one of the beaches and clamber over the basaltic rocky parts with the kids. Among the popular sandy hangouts are Rocklands Beach and Sea Point Beach. Stay for the sunset, when red hues dominate the dramatic Cape Town skyline. Relax in the chlorinated seawater swimming pools and dive pools of Sea Point Pavilion.

The area has several natural tidal pools that make swimming safe and clean. Note that the water is a little cooler here than on the False Bay side of the city. Bring the kids to one of the playgrounds that decorate the coast.

Try the mussels found on the beaches toward the northern end of this district. Note the plaque commemorating Charles Darwin’s observation of an intriguing geological phenomenon relating to igneous and metamorphic rock.

Stay in one of the high-rise apartment towers and modern complexes that characterize this area. Neighborhood pubs and bars generate a lively nightlife ambiance.

Note that the district, which is known as Seepunt in Afrikaans, was named in the 18th century by troops evading a smallpox epidemic.

Sea Point overlooks the Atlantic Ocean on the northwestern coast of Cape Town. It is north of Fresnaye and Bantry Bay and just south of Green Point and Three Anchor Bay. Arrive by bus to one of the many stops located around the neighborhood.

The barista taught me the process of Yama siphon at Origin Coffee Roasting's headquarters. The selection of regional coffees is superb, and the knowledgeable staff will expertly pair the brewing method best suited to your choice. The breakfast menu is great, with plenty of local farm-fresh produce and house-made bagels and sauces. Apparently there is an upstairs courtyard, I would definitely check it out! #coffee #CapeTown
