Stroll down this narrow alley in Córdoba’s historic Jewish quarter to see flowers spilling from the huddled balconies and an unforgettable view of the Great Mosque.

The Calleja de las Flores encapsulates the charm and beauty of the classic Andalusian alley. Walled with timeless whitewashed houses and adorned with potted plants worthy of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, this little alley is a charming place to take in some of Córdoba’s charisma.

Make a turn into the Calleja de las Flores and begin your leisurely walk down the cobblestone alley. Extending along a small downtown block, the alley is just wide enough to fit two pedestrians abreast. As you stroll, you’ll see a collection of plants in terracotta pots hung in pretty patterns along the walls. Admire the cascading tendrils of the vines that are strung across the balconies and the tufts of greenery that spill out from the window grilles. If the flowers are in bloom, you’ll smell the scent of blossoms in the air. Large plants with broad fronds reach toward the sunlight from the cobblestone ground.

At the end of the street, you’ll reach a small plaza. Take a moment to admire the cozy plaza and look back at the enchanting jumble of leaves and flowers. Grab your camera and capture images of the charming scene. This is a corner of Andalucía that has remained untouched by time. Line up your shot so that the immense tower of the Great Mosque of Córdoba is included in the frame. The ornate tower peeks through the gap in the alley, foregrounded by pretty plants.

Stop by one of the cafés in the adjoining streets and relax with a cup of coffee and an Andalusian-style sweet treat. There are also gift stores within the plaza.

The Calle de las Flores runs along the northern façade of the Great Mosque of Córdoba. Add the alley to your walking tour of the city’s historic center and make your way through the winding maze of streets that capture the Cordovan essence. The lane is a 20-minute walk from the city’s main railway station and is free to visit.
