This hotel has seen better days and is a shadow of its former self. There was a problem with our reservation which meant we were given poor rooms with no air con and missing bulbs, linen, and varying levels of amenities (showers, water, etc). We were moved after a night but the rooms don’t match the website photos. One of the bathrooms was unusable due the smell and heat. The hotel is good for location in the city centre, and the garden and pool are pleasant but feel tired and only given basic maintenance)do not believe the pool photo on the website!
The main redeeming feature is the staff and how hard a couple of them worked to make our stay better; their enthusiasm was undermined by the limitations of the hotel to supply things like adequate bedding or simple things like light bulbs. Stay here for very basic amenities and the locations but not for a really comfortable stay.

One of your party members was shown how to operate them correctly, and we encourage you to confirm this with him, as the bulbs were indeed functioning properly.Concerning the linen, any delays in housekeeping were related to the changeover required after the previous guests vacated their room. We strive to maintain high standards, and we regret if this impacted your experience.While we understand that you were not upgraded and expressed your dissatisfaction at the time, it's important to accurately represent your stay. Our records indicate that the upgrades and additional amenities were provided specifically to accommodate the situation caused by the check-in delay.Lastly, we want to clarify that the rooms you initially booked did not include air conditioning. We regret any misunderstanding regarding this. We recognize that after seeing the upgraded rooms, you noticed the differences and felt disappointed. Had a wonderful time and the staff were incredibly helpful. Christina in particular was super kind and had great recommendations for where to eat and always looked out for me (especially as a solo female traveller). Definitely recommend!

Was sceptical at first as the place had drastically deteriorated.The place went under a complete makeover and the rooms are fantastic and everything works.Only downside is there aren’t many TV channels to choose from.Fairly priced and convenient as well.

Posted 8 Apr 2022 on HotelsSelborne Hotel is home away from home. Christine and team give the place a warm touch. The rooms are top notch and the Wi-Fi is excellent. However, the outside and furniture reception area look ‘tired’ and outdated. It hardly reflects the high standard of decor and modern upgrades characteristic of the rooms.

Posted 15 Aug 2019 on HotelsAmazing colonial style hotel with very helpful staff, great restaurant, beautiful garden and convenient parking. Large balcony facing the street but not noisy. Special thanks to MacDonald who helped me find fuel. He was very helpful and humble. Overall great stay.

V kind and helpful staff.
However rooms v v noisy due to it being above the Kings Inn that was pumping out beats until 0300!

City by-laws don't permit music to be played after 11pm so this should never have happened. Following your review we have implemented a strict policy regarding the noise at the Kings Head as well as restricted the volume at which the music will be played. Again we are very sorry about this.
