Discover the diverse artistic heritage of cultures from around the world at the Brooklyn Museum, a landmark institution dating back to 1897. A series of permanent exhibitions and exciting temporary displays are spread across the museum’s sprawling 560,000 square feet (52,000 square meters). With an art collection comprised of 1.5 million works, Brooklyn Museum’s thought-provoking exhibits feature an amazing array of art.

Check out the museum’s monumental façade and classical masonry, which includes a series of sculptures on pediments. Enter the museum and begin your exploration of the permanent collections. The Egyptian, Classical, and Ancient Near Eastern Art collection contains a huge range of ancient relics. Check out artworks and artifacts from more than 100 different African cultures in the Arts of Africa collection. Hop between the cultures of the Pacific Islands or delve into the museum’s extensive collection of Islamic objects and historical texts.

Find a broad collection of European art, spanning late Gothic and early Renaissance treasures to 19th-century French paintings. Trace a timeline of art in the United States, from colonial days to the contemporary age. The Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art showcases artistic dialogue from the feminist movement. Don’t miss Judy Chicago’s masterwork, The Dinner Party.

Due to the collection’s immense size, many works are not on display at any one time. Delve into the museum’s Visible Storage, which shows a range of artworks and items in mobile storage displays. The Steinberg Family Sculpture Garden shows a series of works by American sculptors.

Take a break at the museum’s café or its restaurant, The Norm, which serves internationally inspired dishes. The museum store stocks a range of books, gifts and souvenirs.

The Brooklyn Museum is located on the northeastern corner of Prospect Park, next to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It is open daily, except Mondays and Tuesdays. Visit on a Thursday or the first Saturday of the month for extended museum hours. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Pay the suggested contribution for museum admission. Special exhibitions have fixed admission prices, with senior and child discounts.
