beautiful
Posted 17 Jun 2018 on HotelsGreat stay. It is a beautiful place and the cabin was spacious and comfortable - as was the common room.
The kitchen is outdoors and provides cooking utensils but don't expect anybody else to clean for you. Also you should provide your own food.
As it is pretty far out the landscape and the stars are amazing.
If the owner is not at the reception when you arrive, just give him a call. He is friendly and fun and can give you some tips for hiking.
We did enjoy our stay.

Dated and Dirty
Posted 20 Apr 2018 on Wotif
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The cleanliness, putting day to day essentials in the cabins, updating the bathrooms and surrounding areas.
Location: No activities nearby - you still have to travel to other towns.
We wish we had read the reviews before booking. The place is very dated and had nothing in the cabins except beds and a very old dirty bathroom. There was no TV, Fridge, Tea/coffee making facilities, Toaster etc in the cabins. You had to go to an outdoor communal kitchen that was like a big open shed and full of cobwebs, animal droppings and pretty much everything was covered in dust. The continental breakfast was non existent. Again you had to try and find something in the fridge outside and hope you were not taking someone else food as you were not allowed to take food into your cabin. We won't be going back

Dump in grampians
Posted 19 Apr 2018No towels no sheets no toiletries no breakfast even though we had prepaid for it. The place was so dirty and not anything of interest for a tourist. As Australians we were embarrassed that this was accommodation for overseas visitors. We were under the impression it was 3 stars. We have stayed in a lot of 3stars accommodation beforw and this was rhe worst by far. I want my money back!

Great bush experience. Good base to expl Grampian
Posted 15 Mar 2018 on WotifA great alternative to the touristy Hall's Gap.
The bungalow was spacious and clean. Great beds and bed linen.
Cooking amenities in the breakfast building.
Steve, our host, was a great source to learn about the region, the wildlife, the hikes and, above all, the people.
Of course, if you need the type of comfort offered by a 4 star hotel, this place is not for you, but being in the middle of nowhere is mind-blowing when you scan the sky at night (a dome of stars, stardust, "starmilk" we had never seen anywhere, even in Colorado or in the middle of the Pacific ocean), the sight of mobs of kangoroos is amazing.
Highly recommended!

Very bad experience
Posted 28 Dec 2017 on LastminuteWasn’t happy with the stay that we were expecting, it’s inside the bushes, no mobile network, as we have kids, they gave us the the house inside the bushes, which were not safe and risky. As Free breakfast was mention, there was no staff to serve u, dirty kitchen area. Water wasn’t safe to drink, It’s good for teenagers to live in bushes there but not good at all for a family with kids.there are no market around, no people, it’s just empty land around u,you just have to drive around. Visiting places are quite away from the stay place. Wasnt happy at all. Won’t go there again.

Lovely owner & location but dirty & dilapidated.
Posted 23 Nov 2017 on Wotif
Pros: Friendly owner. Good location. Cheap price.
Cons: The cleanliness of the entire complex. The bedding should be replaced and the screens fixed.
The owner met us on arrival and was very friendly and gave us a brief tour. The location was lovely, allowing us to see a lot of wildlife and view the Grampians in the wilderness. Unfortunately the communal area was dirty, greasy and full of cockroaches and mice! We couldn't even consider cooking there and so had to drive the 40-50km to Horsham to buy dinner. The bins were ransacked in the night, by possums I presume, and over 24 hours later still hadn't been cleaned up. Regarding our lodge, the curtains, bedding and screens were dirty and full of holes, the ceiling was covered in spider webs, the bathroom was filthy, the bin hadn't been emptied, and the cupboard under the sink contained unknown brown contents!!! Each morning we woke up with insects/spiders all over the bed and the walls were paper thin so, had we not been getting up before 7am each day, we would have been awoken by the dogs barking. The air con was fine though and the bed comfortable. I would advise paying a little extra and staying elsewhere.

Waiting for long to get keys. Try to call but owner didn't pick the call. Couldn't get out of car there were 3 dogs. Not recommended to anyone.

Assess Ears Wilderness lodge
Posted 20 May 2017 on HotelsThe cabins are all the same and can be configured how you want by the owner.
Next time I would book through the owner by phone rather than online.
The online sites have different configurations for the cabins which is confusing.
However due to the remoteness of the place and poor phone reception it is often difficult to contact by phone. I was unable to do so and had to book online instead.

One night stay

Pros: No fuss attitude with more than adequate facilities
Isolated in the country for a real outback experience. At one with nature.
