Experience a thrilling walk on the wild side with the Cave of Winds tour as you get the best possible view of the mighty torrents.

Sandwiched between Luna Island and Goat Island on the US side of Niagara Falls, Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest of the three waterfalls that make up the Niagara Falls.

Bridal Veil Falls may be dwarfed by its mighty neighbours, American Falls and Horseshoe Falls but this hasn’t stopped it evolving into one of the most enticing attractions in the area. The main tour associated with these falls is called The Cave of Winds and takes visitors an exhilarating six metres from the torrential water as it thunders into the Niagara basin. However, the name is somewhat confusing as there is no cave and the tour actually consists of traversing a series of red wooden walkways that are perched on the side of the cliff.

The original Cave of Winds was discovered in 1834 and was located behind Bridal Veil Falls. It earned its moniker from the deafening sound of the rushing wind as it was forced into the cavern by the power of the cascading water.

Unfortunately, in 1954, a rockslide blocked the entrance to the cave and the attraction was no more. Undefeated, Bridal Veil Falls demonstrated able resilience and came up with another way to draw the crowds. The present-day guided tour now brings visitors to the front of Bridal Veil Falls as opposed to behind it, as was the case with the original Cave of Winds.

To access this tour, make your way to Goat Island where you will be given a waterproof poncho and special footwear. Hop in the lift for the 53-metre descent into the bowls of the Niagara Gorge. Brace yourself as your guide brings you out on to the infamous Hurricane Deck. You are now within spitting distance of the raging Niagara torrents!

Steady yourself here as the winds can whip unmercifully in all directions. Feel the spray on your face, taste the mist on your lips and absorb the thrill of being so close to nature. And most importantly, don’t forget to take your camera as this is one moment you will want to re-live again and again!
