Unsafe

Posted 13 Aug 2023 on Hotels
On 8 August 2023 at 13:21, I called Acre of Africa Guest House to open the gate. They answered and said they will open the gate. In South Africa, too many people have hijacked at gates so I left rather than wait for them to respond. They finally called me back 17 minutes later. - but by then it was too late. Waiting for them to open the gate at night could have resulted in my kidnapping and murder - it's a scary thought. Now they're telling me they won't refund my money because I didn't wait at the gate. It's a terrifying thought - but one we must all remember to stay safe. Always be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. - if something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. And always remember to keep your guard up. Safety first! They care more about money than the guest lives.

We do humbly apologise that the staff member on duty wasn't fast enough to open the gate for you! Our CCTV show that you waited a very short time and you didn't even climb out of car to press the intercom or the big red call button?

Staff is untrained and unhelpful. As I walked into reception the manager was shouting at kitchen staff.

Basic facilities that does not work in the rooms booked: kettle, cold shower. They did not see to check if they were fucntion before the room is ready. All the access are a bit strange, and walls are very thin. Overall, not a great stay.

Totally not true .Our walls are solid clay bricks , mortar and plastered walls .There was/is hot water all the time . all appliances was/is in perfect working order as the rooms and appliances are inspected by an outside company twice a week to verify that appliances are working .

Enjoyable stay in Johannesburg Area

The venue is very pretty and different from other establishments I've been in . Enjoyed it quite a bit. For a site like HomeAway we didn't really expect a hotel-like room, but it was nice.

Lovely, but had to pay for complimentary breakfast

Posted 18 May 2017 on Hotels
Lovely place, friendly staff, comfortable room. Only problem: they advertised a free buffet breakfast (and the complimentary breakfast was confirmed on our invoice) but they made us pay R50pp for it. Breakfast was not all that great and coffee was bad (instant, not filter). Wifi did not work.

I am sorry for your inconvenience, we did change by bringing in a room only tariff because so many guests asked for a lower price if they didn't take breakfasts therefore you paid only ZAR 595 (43 Usd) for 3 people our special (Normal price R899).(we still pay commission to travel agency) Buffet breakfast at R55 for a really big variety Hot breakfast(9 items) cold breakfast(7 items) yogurt , fruits, 6 serials, Ricofe , Jacobs, rooibos tea, five roses and 3 different juices. Considering a very basic wimpy breakfast is R40 without juice or coffee and other hotels close ask R180 and R120 breakfast I think we give a really big bargain for breakfast as well as this beautiful very clean rooms to stay! Sorry we stopped filter coffee as nobody ever used it with quality coffee like Jacobs .... we will however gladly refund your breakfast as soon as you sent us your banking details!

I think the owner is in the wrong business

Posted 25 Feb 2017
The place is verry nice calm and relaxing... But I found the service really poor No point to have a restaurant if u don't cook No point to have a bar if u don't open it , imagine the owner told me he doesn't like drunk people that why he never open , for wat reason does have a bar ... and why advertising a swimming pool ... that in real life is never clean ..comon it was summer I was on Holliday... once again the owner said it only for him and his kids..

I am very sorry for the misunderstanding but according to the grading council meals should be open for a 3 star - one hour, 4 star 2 hours and a 4 star 4 hours. We as a 3 star do breakfast from 6h30 until 10 each morning and dinner from 18h00 to 20h00. Our bar lounge is only open for our own guest and we renew yearly our full Liquor licence so our guests can have drinks in and outside anywhere on our premises. Yes drunks do cause to much problems by waking up and knocking on wrong doors and our priority is "sleep". Our pool is and was always see through clean and anybody can go look on the xmeye cctv visitors porthole realtime if our swimming pool (Cam3) and premise is clean (Cam 1 to 32) Kitchen Cam(12) Dining room (cam17+26+31)
