Fine sandy beaches as far as the eye can see is undoubtedly Blokhus' main attraction, and if you are visiting with children you probably won’t be able to leave without a visit to Faarup Summer Park, which is Northern Jutland's biggest amusement park. Blokhus offers vibrant events throughout the summer, such as the Sand Sculpture Festival and fun exciting sports activities in the surrounding countryside.
Blokhus was originally a maritime community trading mainly with Norway. Today, the town, which has fewer than 500 inhabitants, is a popular holiday destination, where you have as easy access to ice cream parlours and restaurants as you do to the stunning beach.
If you are on a weekend break in Blokhus, you should prioritise a visit to Faarup Summer Park, which is a combined water park and amusement park, and just a few miles from Blokhus. Take the time to enjoy the nature in Blokhus Dune Plantation, where you can find red deer and roe deer. If you are walking, why not bring a picnic and enjoy a lunch out in the open, while the small ones enjoy themselves on the plantation’s fun natural playground.
Or how about mountain biking on one of the best mountain bike trails in Denmark or riding on Icelandic horses? The possibilities are endless.
Blokhus beach is awarded the international Blue Flag almost every year, and has lifeguards keeping an eye on safety throughout the summer, so you can safely let your children swim here. If you are visiting Blokhus between the 1st of July and mid-August, you will be able to hear the Blokhus Cannon Association mark the sunset by firing the historic Blokhus cannon at 9 p.m. every night.
Perhaps you are lucky enough that your holiday in Blokhus coincides with the Blokhus Sand Sculpture Festival, where 20 artists from around the world compete to create the most lavish sand sculptures by changing themes.
You can travel to Blokhus by bus and train or car. Bus 200 from Aalborg bus terminal will take you to Blokhus in about one hour, but be aware that some of the connections require you to change bus in Pandrup. Blokhus is located 20 miles north-west of Aalborg Airport. Once you have arrived you will notice that you will mainly use your feet, as Blokhus is a small town where you have everything within manageable walking distance.
Head to Blokhus to enjoy the sea and nature, and to let your inner child loose in the water park and on wild rides.
