There are plenty of incredible beaches here. In central Varna there is a long sandy beach next to the lush park, Primorski. A bit to the north there are the calm beaches at the spa town of Sveti Konstantin: some beaches are shallow watered, while others are deeper and suitable for windsurfing. Golden Sands, a couple of miles north of Varna, with its bars and nightclubs, is especially popular with young people.
Varna and Golden Sands tend to be particularly popular with families, thanks to the proximity to the sea and the family-friendly activities on offer. See the great gold treasure at Varna's archaeological museum, familiarise yourself with the plants and animals at the aquarium and the Natural History Museum. In Golden Sands you can slide in the flumes at the Aquapolis water park and explore the caves of the Aladzha monastery.
Visit Pobiti Kamani, one of Europe's rare desert areas, where naturally-formed stone piles protrude from the sand. Take a walk from Varna towards the dam at Tzonevo and see Chudnite Skali, the limestone formations resembling a fortress.
From the airport in Varna you can travel by bus to the city centre in about 20 minutes. If you are going by taxi, you should agree with the driver on the price in advance. Getting around Varna isn’t a problem as you can walk between the various sights.
Many book weekend trips to Varna on the north coast to sunbathe and swim in the sea, but there’s so much more to do bedsides. Whether you stay in Varna or in one of the nearby towns, you can expect to be close to the attractions and the beach.
