With sunset parties, DJ entertainment, fashion shows and great waves, this lively beach attracts surfers and a good-looking, youthful and sun-kissed crowd.

Bikini Beach (Playa Bikini) is one of Uruguay’s summer hotspots, a place that blends natural scenery with beautiful people. Mingle with the well-heeled beachgoers, who come to parade their chiseled bodies and trendy beach attire, and experience a slice of Punta del Este’s fun-loving lifestyle.

The area started as a local surfing spot. Today its rolling waves remain popular with Jet Skiers, surfers and standup paddleboarders. Rent a surfboard and take lessons with experienced instructors. It’s safe to swim in the ocean. Lifeguards patrol the beach from mid-December to mid-March.

Set down your towel or deckchair and take a moment to absorb the energetic atmosphere. The main action centers on the parador (beach bar), where you can purchase drinks and snacks or observe fashion shows. Watch as groups of youthful men and women chat, dance and flirt while listening to electronic music played by DJs.

For a quieter experience, stroll along the golden sand toward the southern end of the beach. Time your visit to watch as the sun drifts down over Punta del Este’s distant high-rise towers. Then return to the parador to be part of a lively sundown party.

Walk up from the beach to the main road to find a collection of cafés, ice cream parlors and restaurants. The bars here keep the après-beach events going until the early hours of the morning, most notably in the summer.

Located in the Manantiales suburb, Bikini Beach is a 25-minute drive from Punta del Este’s town center. Public buses and minibuses travel regularly along the coastal road between the beach and Punta del Este Bus Terminal. If you drive, use the small parking lot above the beach, which fills up fast in the peak season. Parking is also available on the surrounding streets. Parking is free, although it’s customary to tip the attendant.

Bikini Beach is crowded from morning until late in the evening during the months of January and February. Outside of these months, enjoy a more serene beach atmosphere with fewer parties and more families.
