The hotel is in a pretty central location, it’s pretty close to Hopson One mall which has plenty of shopping and dining options. The air conditioning units are abysmal and no matter how low you set it, the temperature in my room was averaged between 21°-23° the six nights I spent there even with the AC set at 17°. Staff are kind however they do not speak any English as advertised. It took an unsuccessful phone call, a visit to the front desk, two translation apps and three employees to answer the question ‘What time does the gym open?’. No smoking signs are place throughout the building however it’s so widespread that I could not only smell smoke in but saw several guests smoking and there are ashtrays throughout the corridors of the hotel that are regularly changed out which seemed very contradictory. It’s half-decent for the price but I would not stay again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the MERCURE BEIJING DOWNTOWN.Beijing stop supplying warm air after March 15th, start providing cold air in May, and stop cold air in early October. From November 15th, we will turn on warm air, so the air conditioning will be natural for two to three months, with neither cold nor warm air, this period is in spring and autumn, which is the most comfortable season in Beijing. Due to everyone's different body sensations, we deeply apologize for the unpleasant experience you had this time. The staff was very polite and seemed to genuinely want to make good impression. The concierge went above and beyond to ensure that we had tickets for rail travel.

This is a horrible hotel. Mold, dirt, smells so bad. I refrained from using the bathroom because if its smell. Internet connection slow and cuts off every 10 min. Very outdated and very very very old rooms. Smells like an old grandmas house. Do not stay here if you care about your health And if you are with children...mold is alive here.

the wifi was unpredictable, the breakfast buffet was super crowded and the front desk staff not always very helpful. i was not made to feel welcome. only a few staff members speak functional English so be prepared to use google translate to try and be understood. there is next to nothing of interest in walking distance and at rush hour dont expect to wait less than 30 minutes for a taxi or Didi car to show up.
