The gorgeous town of Bastad is as synonymous with tennis to a Swede as Wimbledon is to a Brit. Swedish Open is held here two weeks in july every year. See a match during the tournament or play a game yourself – there are plenty of courts to choose from around town. Visit the local Sweden Tennis Museum if you are a true fan of the sport. Swedish Open is not the only popular event that takes place in Bastad. Bastad Chamber Music Festival in June and Lilla Filmfestivalen in August draw their own crowds.
Shop on Kopmansgatan, where a good selection of shops is mixed with charming cafés. There are plenty of good restaurants in Bastad, and if you want to sample the delicious fresh fish and seafood of the region you will find the best places closest to the harbour. Take advantage of the coastal location and spend a day or two on the beach. Laholmsbukten consists of one beautiful, long, sandy beach after another so you can just take your pick.
Go on a tour on horseback if you want a different experience of the Bastad surroundings. Explore the caves and fascinating rock formation at Hovs Hallar. Climb Grieve Backar, which is made up of grass covered eskers, or play golf at one of the beautiful golf courses that are spread across the rolling landscape.
Bastad is often seen as a summer town, but it has much to offer independent of the season. Go ice skating on Klarningen or Hemmeslov during winter. There are also opportunities for both cross country and downhill skiing. The well kept slopes at Vallasen have a combined length of just over five kilometres, and the slightly hilly landscape in Halehall is perfect for a moderately challenging cross country trek.
It's not hard to get to Bastad. Get the train to Lund or Malmo from other places in Sweden and continue by bus to Bastad. Fly to Gothenburg, Malmo or Copenhagen and travel the last bit by bus or train. While in Bastad it is easy to get to all the major sites with local buses or by bike.
