See one of the most famous churches of the city and enjoy the beauty of a majestic building dating back to the 18th century.

The Basílica de Santa María del Coro (Basilica of Saint Mary of the Choir) or Koruko Andre Mariaren Basilika in Basque language, is an emblematic church in the old part of the city of San Sebastián in the north of Spain. Discover a beautiful building in baroque style. Its magnificent entrance features a statue of San Sebastián Mártir (Saint Sebastian), patron of the city.

A Romanesque church built by the king of Navarre and dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries once stood on the site occupied by the Basílica de Santa María today. In the year 1688 a large explosion in a castle nearby badly damaged the church. Its reconstruction started in 1734 undertaken by the architects Pedro Ignacio de Lizardi and Miguel de Salezar. Take stunning photos of the famous façade of Santa María del Coro and discover its many intricate details. See the impressive entrance with two tall towers, the figure of St. Sebastian and the shield of the city.

Wander inside the basilica to find the fantastic main altar. It’s dedicated to the Virgen del Coro (Virgin of the Choir) and it has a beautiful 16-inch (40-centimeter) wooden statue. Also in the main altar, discover a great canvas depicting San Sebastián, painted by Luis Boccia in 1819. Admire the old Baroque organ that dates back to the year 1863. It was made by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, considered one of the best organ makers of the 19th century. Step into the impressive main nave of the church, which is divided into three smaller naves. Marvel at the stunning central dome, 88 feet (27 meters) above you.

Visit the Basílica de Santa María del Coro and see one of the most important churches of San Sebastián. Wander along the picturesque old quarter to discover other renowned buildings of the city, such as the Iglesia de San Vicente (Saint Vincent Church).
