Traveling from Canada, we found Basel to be quite expensive. That said, Royal Hotel provided really good value for money. It was professionally run, the self check-in was easy, and being across the street from transit was very convenient. The unit was small, but very clean and as advertised. There were 5 of us (two adults and three teen children) and had a good sleep. It was nice to have a (small) work area too. We'd stay again!

Very loud and the building was shaking throughout the night as the hotel is directly across from the German train station. unsure what bit me overnight (10 bites), but it wasn’t a mosquito.
Front desk was staffed with very welcoming and helpful people! We appreciated the Basel card that provided free transportation and half off museums. Loved the city of Basel, but would not stay here again.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was clean and comfortable with plenty of space. Hotel was centrally located. Staff was helpful with accessing city transportation. Breakfast was nice. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Not being able to easily leave suitcases at reception , because it’s more like serviced rooms than a hotel was difficult but being able to check in at 12 and access our room straight away was really good .

Room was a bit dated and it felt like I was the only guest! No front desk staff in the evening - had to get in outside via a machine which was a little unnerving.
In the morning the front desk attendee was very polite and helpful
