The place was old. Pockets doors on the bathroom. Bathroom sink is tilted and toilet is loose on the floor. Mattresses sag in the middle. Tv placed above small table tilted downward…watch your head getting up! Ouch, more than once we bumped our heads and back room has a definite dip!

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. We are one of the few remaining mom and pop motels around, and most guests who reserve with us either stay because of the beautiful view and they want to be on Lake Superior, or all the new big box hotels are full or will not allow their pets. I will have Doug check the toilet in the morning. Perhaps he can put a "bumper" on the wall-mounted TV stand.

2024 price for a 1950's motel.

Thank you for staying with us, I assume you saw the photos online and were aware that you had reserved in a 1950's motel and what our rates are. With the inflation of the past 4 years, it is difficult to stay competitive with our neighbors. The economy has increased our Labor costs 35%, as well as increased our taxes, insurance, heat and electricity, the cost of linens, even the coffee supplies in your room, the gas to run the mower, and I could go on. I frequently monitor other motel rates and if you compare our rates to theirs, you will notice that we are competitive. It is tough making a go of it in 2024. We have owned our business since 1979, and are proud that we have been able to succeed as we have and hope to be in business here for years to come.

Thank you for your great review! It is good to have guests stay with us who appreciate the beauty and peace of Lake Superior. To me, there is almost nothing better than sitting in the chairs on the deck of the motel, basking in the sun, watching the waves roll in and the eagles and ducks flying overhead, and smelling the fresh unpolluted air of the Keweenaw. Hope you will stay with us again when you travel up our way!

What a wonderful view from our room of the sunrise. Dog friendly that was nice. There is no restaurant at site even advertisement said there was however Carla had a great list of resturants near by. On recommenday would be to have one dog friendly room with a railing near the 3 steps
We appreciated the grab bars near the front door.

We enjoyed having you and your “kids” stay with us That is a great suggestion about the handrail by your outdoors steps, and later this fall when we pour new cement steps we can incorporate a handrail there too.hopefully we will have a the beginnings of our new restaurant started too! Carla was very pleasant and the overnight was great for just 1 person. Too tight if my wife had been with me. It needs more TLC and general upkeep. I congratulate the owners for keeping it going, though in a tough economy.
The next-door restaurant was closed, and none were right nearby.
The view facing east across the bay was gorgeous and the price was good.

You are correct- it is difficult for an older mom and pop motel to stay open when guests expect the look of a new big box hotel We work hard to offer super clean rooms with the amenities of the big boxers, and the million dollar view on Lake Superior that most places do not have. Hope you will book with us again if you are up this way and of course we do have rooms with 2 beds if you want to bring your lovely wife along!

I liked the convenience of location,,I had two kids to pickup and move on.
If you have dogs this is a great place to hang out,,
If you are a non dog owner you will not like it,
Reasonable price for short lay over

I am sure it must be stressful traveling with kids, Most of our guests do not travel with dogs and seem to really enjoy our million -dollar view of Lake Superior. Parents with rowdy young boys seem to enjoy having room for them to run around outdoors after sitting in a car all day

I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. After we spoke and you told me you were going to a very late arrival, I changed your room to an end one which was twice as big as your original reservation at no additional charge. you apparently did not see my note with the new information and did not inform me of your arrival as some of our rooms are not pet friendly , the end one is good for a late arrival so other guests are not disturbed

It was a relaxing place to stay. The staff were friendly. It could use some clean up outside, weeding. The bed was great as were the sheets, pillows, blankets.

Weeded all the flowerbeds and around the base of the restaurant, and it looks so much better now. I think I can even pick another small batch of rhubarb now that I can see it!
