A magical setting and very quiet place. We stopped here on the way from Le Bugue in the Dordogne to Paris. However, it was a bit basic! We were staying in a cottage next to the mill which was 1970s concrete and furnished very basically. I have seen more luxurious student accommodation. The dinner was ambitious but truly awful. I had melon with champagne followed by pork mignon. The first course tasted rather soapy, the second had a thick sweet sauce. We didn’t pay 12 euros for pudding, feeling that 29 euros (if I recall correctly) for dinner was already too much. Dinner was by the mill pond, which smelt slightly fetid, lit by a single lamppost on each side so we could barely see our food. It would have been nicer to have simpler, better quality, more reasonably priced food at the end of a long drive and a candle on the table. Breakfast was fine but cost an extra 14 euros and was served on an unlaid, crumby table. The pool was rather cloudy and dirty. The only saving grace was the prettiness of the place and the friendly receptionist.

A favourite French hotel
Posted 26 Aug 2018 on HotelsAs regular guests at the Relais over many years & under 2 different managements, we have no qualms about recommending this hotel. The present management,Cyril & Roxana Orinel have maintained the high standards of this quiet hotel in rural surroundings, yet within easy reach of the autoroute.Rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, clean & well-equipped.The cuisine is excellent & for the energetic there is a pool & spa. You are always assured of a warm and friendly welcome from Cyril & Roxana who both speak English,& we have no hesitation in recommending the Moulin de Chameron to fellow travellers & visitors to the area.

Overnight stop on route to Italy
Posted 3 Aug 2017 on HotelsWe booked a standard room but did not realise these were all up a stairway. On arrival we asked was it possible to have aground floor room and we were informed they were all full.
During our one night stay we only saw 5 other people. We would have been happy to pay the extra. No one likes to be told lies.

Fantastic restaurant in the middle of nowhere
Posted 3 Jun 2015 on HotelsWe stayed here for one night when on a trip to find the geographical centre of France, which is not too far away. We had read good reviews about the restaurant, and thought it looked like a pleasant location. It was indeed very pleasant - in the middle of nowhere (just how we like it!). The old mill building was fascinating, and it was nice to see some of the old equipment still on show. The bedroom was quite basic, but clean and well-presented. The bed was quite soft which was not good for my partner's back, but it was okay for one night. Now then, the restaurant...fantastic! We sat outside for a drink before dinner, and were surprised with some lovely 'nibbles' which raised our expectations for the dinner menu. The menu has a number of tempting options, but we chose to try the 5 course menu in which the chef chooses the dishes, and the wine is chosen to match each course. The food was amazing - the different flavours and textures were wonderful, and the presentation of the food was beautiful. I tried foods which I had never eaten before, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice they were. The wine was also very good, and we were able to try several different whites, roses and reds. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel just to have dinner there!

Relax and refresh

Pros: Location , historic building , lack of technology and a feeling of not wanting to leave.
Cons: For most likely needing WiFi / Internet access in each room rather than a communal resting place. For me this was not an issue and prefer it this way.
Location: A vehicle is paramount to get around but with empty roads it's a joy to have and I rediscovered that I actually enjoy driving a car. Plenty Chataues
Would whole heartidly recommend staying at this establishment. If you want to sit back , relax and forget about your day to day life , you've chosen the right place. We were unaware of the gastrenomic delights we would be served for dinner and that added an extra level to our stay. Fresh made and baked coissant in the morning was the best start to the day. Lovely atmosphere , courteous and kind owner with time for his residants makes this the first choice for me in this region of France. I was also fortunate to have hired a car and enjoyed the miles of empty country roads meandering through timeless local villages.
