We’ve been to Bangkok’s Shangrila on many occasions. We keep returning because this beautiful property is located on the river and it’s such a great escape from Bangkok’s busyness. And going into town is so easy because the sky train station Saphan Taksin is next door. Spa is amazing! Food is amazing! And somehow their staff is even more amazing than before. They’re just so helpful with whatever you may need. This trip we did a private long tail boat tour on the Chaopraya River and they coordinated it all and had the boat pick us up at Shangrila’s pier. We also needed help with finding our 2 year old a babysitter. We informed them in advance they provided a fabulous nanny. Such a great experience per usual!!!

The Shangri-La is still a great hotel! I have been here four times in 20 years, and we loved returning. The hotel remains beautiful, albeit a bit dated with decor, but spotlessly clean and elegant. The breakfast is fabulous, the workout room great, and the pool absolutely lovely. The location along the river cannot be beat. Water taxis are just minutes away. Our only issue was that the amenities such as water in the room are stingy now. For such a fine hotel, drinking water should be more plentiful.

This hotel is convenient, close to transport, old yet not run down and represent the best of luxury à la the 80s

Beautiful property close to shops and restaurants. The staff was great. Best breakfast spread I have seen.

Lovely hotel, lots of facilities, and pleased with our choice.
You ask about the area around it. Between the two hotel wings is pretty grotty though; there seems to be no attempt to paint, decorate, garden etc the immediate outside areas. The outside of the Krungthep wing is more like a parking garage than a 5 star hotel… Fortunately we didn’t stay there, but we did pass between the areas…
Inside the rooms are good, but what’s with the lighting? The room lights could only be operated from one side of the bed, so enter the room at night, switch on the bathroom light by the door to give some visibility, then feel your way to the far side of the bed to do the rest. And the hallway light doesn’t come on at all (there’s no switch anyway for that) and the bulb above one side of the bed was not working and it was not fixed all week.
Only other ‘complaint’ is the TV channel selection is very limited; no movies etc at all.
Everything else was good :)
