Fantastic Staff, and gorgeous rooms.

Posted 5 Dec 2020 on Hotels
I stayed at the Jester while I was in the area for business. Bas and his chef Derek bent over backwards to accommodate during what was a very difficult time for them at the tail end of the second lockdown. With no other staff to support them, and making preparations for the reopening, they still found time to make sure I had access to evening meals and breakfast, despite the fact they had no reason to open the kitchen, just to serve me. As my stay extended in to the reopening period post lock down, I got to sample some of their fantastic weekly specials on the menu, which you really do have to order at the first opportunity, or there is the very real possibilty of missing out. The room I stayed in was fantastic, with a very co.fortable, vintage 4 poster bed, and I also had the chance to see a few of the modernised rooms they had been preparing, should I opt for a change on future business trips. Can honestly say, this will forever be my choice of hotel when visiting the area, and I would urge anyone nearby to drop in for dinner given the chance.

Even at the price, the hotel is disappointing. Rooms are adequate but need a proper refresh and public areas also tired. Covid has had an impact on facilities as only the bar was open and no food on offer.

Hi Craig, Sorry to hear that, unfortunately our Chef had a personal emergency which he had to deal with, unfortunately under the current climate a lot of facilities nationwide are affected, many hotels do not open the bar or restaurant at this difficult time. Thank you

overnight stay

Posted 12 Sep 2020 on Hotels
Allocated spacious room with four poster bed with spotless white sheets and duvet cover. We had a large walk in shower and soft bath sheets. Tea and coffee making tray provided and good size television on wall. Extra pillows and towels in wardrobe if required. Our meal in the bar was lovely. I had delicious beef stir fry and my husband had beef curry which he said was very nice. Sticky toffee pudding and custard was so good. All washed down with a nice Sauvignon and lager. The owner Bas is very attentive and gave us bottles of water for room. Nothing seems too much trouble for him and the young gentleman working with him. This hotel is in an ideal situation to take the train in to London for a days sightseeing without having to stay in a busy environment. The station is directly across the road.

Last minute booking all without a hitch. Great friendly owner and staff. The owner Bas making the most that the current restrictions allow. Restaurant seemed to do a good trade and all organised well under difficult times. Will make this my hotel of choice when im that way again.

Chose this place as it was convenient, noted that it was rated as superb but that wasn't what clinched the deal which was just as well because how anyone can rate it that highly is beyond me. It is just a dull drab pub devoid of any kind of character. Check in was friendly enough initially then I got the impression that the lady would rather be doing something/anything else. Room was poky and the bed lumpy, watching the telly was excruciating due to the signal dropping out with the picture and sound going haywire. Evening meal was basic and the beer was ok (hooray, ok beer found in a pub!!!!!!). Noticed a sign at the bar stating that those booking via Hotels.com etc had to pay extra for breakfast whilst those booking direct got it included. I decided that this wasn't so much of a problem because the evening meal was so off putting i would have given it a miss anyway. Could hear noise from adjacent rooms, particularly the whooshing/gurgling sounds emitted by the pumping devices joined to the toilets. Not impressed, happy to look elsewhere.

Thats right due to the lower rates we do for Expedia and Hotels.com we are not able to do breakfast, however if you book with us its included.

Friendly stay. Room need (and getting) refurbished

Posted 7 Nov 2019 on Hotels
Nice staff but property very tired. The owner has started refurbishing the rooms. Saw new carpet in upstairs halls. Our room badly in need of redo and new beds. It’s an old building, no elevator, narrow stairs. The cooked breakfast was very good and staff friendly. It’s not in a village but right across the road from the train station with direct links to Cambridge and London.
