Breathe fresh air, go for a stroll or play ball at this city park, which regularly hosts concerts and events in a charming garden setting.

Find a green getaway in Downtown Frederick at Baker Park. This 58-acre (23-hectare) parkland extends northwest from Frederick’s historic downtown district, providing the perfect spot for rest and relaxation in the city. Get active at the park’s ball fields and swimming pool or relax by the banks of pretty Culler Lake.

Despite its narrow shape, Baker Park has plenty of space for visitors to find their own space and enjoy the atmosphere. Bring a good book or a picnic and relax beneath the trees on the park’s eastern end. Stroll around the park and check out the different community facilities. The Baker Park Bandshell hosts a range of summer concerts, as well as theater productions for children. You might see local musicians or touring acts on the stage at this popular outdoor venue.

Near the band shell is a series of tennis courts. Watch locals competing or challenge your friends to a match. Baker Park’s southern side is bordered by Carroll Creek. Follow the creek west and enjoy the pretty wooded creek banks. In the heart of the park is Culler Lake, which has grassy banks and a fountain in the middle. Sit by the creek and look out across the parkland. You’ll see a tall tower, which contains the park’s carillon. At lunchtime on select Sundays , the city carillonneur gives a recital on the 49-bell carillon.

If the sun is shining, go for a swim at Baker Park’s Edward P. Thomas Jr. Memorial Pool. This swimming pool has plenty of space to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Nearby, watch locals play a baseball game at Angleberger Field.

The northern border of the park is marked by the Schifferstadt Architectural Museum. Visit this remarkable German-Georgian building to learn about Frederick in the mid-18th century.

Find Baker Park west of central Frederick. Reach the parkland by bus or on foot from the city’s historic downtown district. The park is free to visit however, there may be fees for some attractions, such as the swimming pool and the museum.
