Otherworldly rocks rise from the ocean on this secluded shoreline that is often listed among Brazil’s most beautiful beaches.

Small rocks and natural pools of colorful fish are a trademark of the serene and scenic Porcos Bay. With its unimpeded views of the two peaks of Dois Irmãos Hill, it provides spectacular photo opportunities. Climb up one of the surrounding cliffs for the best vantage points to enjoy this surreal region of cliffs, islets and the blue-green glimmer of the ocean.

Stroll along the pebbles and larger stones that make up this picturesque beach. Pick out your favorite natural pools and look for fish swimming around inside. Note how the hues of the water vary from light turquoise to dark blue.

The beach is small and cozy at about 330 feet (100 meters) long. Find your own spot for a pleasant picnic as you admire the stunning scenery. The highlight is Dois Irmãos Hill, which consists of two twin rocks not far from shore.

At the top of the cliffs surrounding the beach lie the ruins of São João Baptista Fort. Explore the crumbling walls and learn about the history of the island, which had 11 fortifications in total. Wander along the circular Golfinho Trail and Dois Irmãos Lookout Trail for some of the island’s best views.

Bring your own gear for snorkeling and diving in the calm waters. Be careful of jagged edges on the rocky ocean floor.

Note that access to the bay is fairly difficult along a stony trail leading from Cacimba do Padre Beach. Prepare to get wet during high tide. You can also take a boat between the two beaches at certain times. With the difficult access, the bay is particularly serene with few crowds. The beach’s name is Portuguese for the “Bay of Pigs.”

From Vila dos Remédios, drive west for 10 minutes to reach the small stretch of sand of Porcos Bay. It is nestled between sheltering cliffs that flank the neighboring Sancho Beach and Cacimba do Padre Beach. The island’s airport is a 1-mile (1.6 kilometer) walk east from the bay.
