2 night family stay at Chateau de la Poste

Posted 26 Aug 2017 on Hotels
2 night family stay at the chateau de la poste. We had a family room on the top floor in the tower of the chateau. the room was spacious, nice bathroom, but access is poor. There is a lift to get you to the 2nd floor, but then there is a narrow flight of stairs inside the room to access the bedroom. Not ideal if you have heavy luggage or if you have mobility issues. Also be aware that there is a cross beam across the room and if you are more than 1.5m tall you have to constantly watch your head. The room was quiet with a nice view. Surroundings are great for relaxing and activities. Breakfast is good. Did not dine at hotel, discovered a nice restaurant (Les 7 Meuses) with a stunning view stunning view a few miles away. Overall nice stay.

Beautiful landscape, bad hotel

Posted 16 Jul 2017 on Hotels
We stayed two nights and even though the area and the hotel grounds were quite charming and relaxing the actual hotel experience was disappointing. Our check-in was not very welcoming. The person in charge seemed bored as she rushed through the check-in information. It felt like we were taking up her time and she couldn't bear to deal with another new guest. She then went on to explain the hotel rules (some of them quite obvious) as if we were there to make havoc: 'the bikes are free but you have to pay if you damage them', 'there's a fee if you check out late', 'you can't eat outside the hotel' (?)... When we asked for tourist info she reacted as if we were asking about Mars and advised to 'Google it.' We had payed for the cheapest room so we were fine when we were told our room was not in the main building but in the 'small castle' (probably the old servants' quarters) just a few meters away. The room was small but comfortable. However, the bathroom floor was dirty and there were even spiderwebs with two occupants. The breakfast was also disappointing (not at all like in the pictures): very bad coffee from a machine, old granola. The only plus side: fresh juice. The carpet in the eating area was tired-looking and there was dust behind the radiators. So, in summary, beautiful landscape, lovely castle, great dining in the charming village close-by (Crupet) but beware that you might only be paying for the views.

Character

Beautiful character setting with a view and spooky atmosphere. Room fittings a bit dated. Car parking about 200m away and can get uncomfortable when rainy.
