The Sarova Corp and Expedia, Posted that we had to pay $140 US upon arrival by credit card, NOT CASH. At the gate to the Park, we were told that we had to pay $140 per day in cash for our stay at hotel in Park. Including day of our arrival after Park hours!
We had no US dollars in cash, so they let us go to hotel to get money. The Shaba lodge had no dollars and could not give cash of any kind for credit card withdraw.
So we spent the second day negotiating and reception called a bank in distant village to see if they would let us use their atm to get $600 USA
in Kenya Shillings. We spent day getting Shillings going twice on a dangerous gully filled dirt track for 10 kilometers! Not a road!
Your Expedia Insurance with Allianz would not cover the Money lost by theft,
as it did not fit in trip interruption guidelines.
I said it was theft by misrepresentation but they did not listen. They sent me a refusal. Thus more time and money wasted.

The rooms need a TV and at least an extra TV for sports. It’s beautiful though and very relaxing.

Weekend getaway
Posted 26 Dec 2018 on HotelsThe staff were brilliant - a lot of attention to detail. Great food - so much variety you will definitely find something you will like. They cater for all dietary requirements. Surrounding areas perfect for game drives. Serene and peaceful environment. Great choice!

The hotel is quiet and clean, the service everywhere is superb, the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is great and there;'s lots of it, and the setting is heavenly -- right on the Wasa River, surrounded by animals, with an electric fence to keep out the crocodiles resting in the river bed. Monkeys and baboons are regular visitors. All in all a great place.

A beautiful lodge in the heart of Shaba. The service was amazing and the food delicious. I hated leaving there!

We'll be back
Posted 1 Jul 2017Paradise on earth tucked away. A wonderful feel as soon as you enter the property. Staff are wxceptionally warm and well trained. Have a "Can do" attitude with great efficiency. Property is beautifully done, and unpretentious. Food, though a buffet was delicious... Hubby went back more at every meal. There are Rangers on site to take you out on hiking safaris or game drives. Would loved ro have stayed longer to explore the area more. Did miss having a running track or a gym though :).
We drive down, but there is also a little airstrip next to the property. Will give that a go the next time.
Adesh the ranger who took us walking was extremely knowledgeable. David who Took us on a game drive was also excellent.
Bravo to all the team ! Until next time

Attractive Lodge on riverside
Posted 30 Sep 2016
Pros: Location and staff
Cons: Some refurbishment of facilities is needed
Location: Handy for drives in Shaba, Samburu and Buffalo Springs Parks
First visited here 30 years ago and while there is no great evidence of much in the way of refurbishments the facilities are still well enough maintained. Bathrooms might be updated by still passable. But a well designed lodge with a great location on the river bank.

We loved our stay.
Posted 4 Aug 2015 on HotelsWe loved our stay. The location is excellent, by the river, inside the park, but well protected with electric fencing. When we checked in late @ 6-30 pm, there was only one room left, not so good one. The toiletries were missing, the electronic safe was not working (required battery change), there was drinking water provided, only one towel, and likes of that. Worst of all there was no phone in the room. So as we discovered each of the missing things, we really had to walk back to the reception to ask. But they provided everything later. So ultimately it was fine. The food was good, since the chef took special care of us offering us special dishes.
