This rustic and traditional retreat has robust rural local cuisine. Hearty portions of egg, Serrano ham, green olives, olive oil, crusty durable bread, honey, and pastries bulge the menu. The Cafe is open 24 hours. The nice dining room serves late lunch and early dinner. Cars and trucks keep it constantly busy. It also has a convenience store which sells local products such as full lags of ham with their little black hooves and jars of Quince jam, called membrillo. Not so many visitors stay overnight. It is far from the Antequera train station (30 minutes) and costs about 40 euros to get from train to taxi. The two nearest towns, Antequera and Villanuev del Rosario are only 5 miles from the hotel, but without a car, they are almost impossible to get to. You can't hike on the highway, and there are no local busses. Even taxis can be too few or to busy to come when needed. We were stranded there for four hours for failing to research the transportation situation. Unless you have a car or like to hitchhike, I suggest travelers avoid this destination.

Overnight stay

Posted 12 Dec 2017 on Hotels
It was an overnight stay to break up a journey so not really there long enough to comment. Only complaints were shower scalding hot and couldn't adjust the temp as the gauge was broken and couldn't get a cup of tea in the morning as the cafetería packed full with people who had turned up on a coach for a drink. The restaurant was closed so we went to the petrol station cafe down the road. Apart from that all good.

If you have no choice

Pros: Nice set of permanently hungry cats.Authentic bar with locals. Plenty of parking.
Cons: Reserve a couple "no fumaro / smoking" rooms. Translate restaurant menu to extra language.
Location: Not far from highway, 24 hr market nearby
Hotel was build in 1947 so there is NO windows in the most rooms by design. The problem is hotel owner does not comprehend concept "no smoking" room. You might imagine that smell. Other than that pretty authentic rustic middle-of-nowhere hotel. Nobody speak any language but local dialect. Rooms are tiny but clean. Beds kind unstable for people over 100 kg. Walls are thin so if you are curious you know what's going on between your neighbors.

For the price, it was a great place. Easy access. The room was spacious and clean. Good place to stay for for a night on the road.
