The property is very nice, the pool is superb however they close it very early at 7 pm but I understand they may want to prevent noise for the tenants facing the pool. The staff in general was nice, but a few were a little annoyed by questions. You need a car I will not walk outside the property since it is a main road. They offer a shuttle to the Alvor beach ( it is a public beach) you can inquire if they offer other stops, I am sure Uber works fine too. If dinning in the property make sure to reserve in advance. Our room on the 4th floor was far from the elevator, easier to take the stairs, however our view was breathtaking looking at the golf course, pool, and far town (back of the property) it had a semi second level with a desk and balcony very nice room layout for two. The buffet breakfast was also very nice with a good selection. It was definitely a beautiful stay but I didn’t expect it to be so uptight. Close to Silves and Lagos. It is conveniently located to explore other areas.

Our 2 night stay at the Penina was the highlight of our trip to Portugal. Every member of the team were so friendly and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean, the grounds and facilities at the pool were wonderful. The food in the Henry Cotton restaurant was excellent. We played tennis and the golf course was amazing and excellent value. We would definitely recommend and we are already planning to return to the Penina next year. Thank you Penina for a wonderful stay.

Always amazing here. Unpretentious, authentic and gorgeous charm. Attentive staff who go above and beyond. Fabulous breakfast, golf and pool. We will be back for our 16th year!

Short golfing break

We had 3 nights at Penina after a week in Vilamoura. We arrived at 1.30pm and were able to check in and use the facilities straightaway. We had a mountain facing room which was fine for a short stay. The buffet restaurant was disappointing - the Mexican food was very bland. The Italian restaurant wasn’t much better, the scallops hadn’t been seared, neither had the skin on the sea bass. The Grill restaurant was much better, with excellent service and significantly better food. The food at the Henry Cotton restaurant was good but overpriced for what was provided. Disappointingly the beach club was not open - on the website says open April to October, but clearly this is variable! The golf service is very efficient. We only played the resort course, but had no problems playing when we wanted. Although check out is by midday, we were able to play golf and use the facilities in the locker room afterwards, so we didn’t leave until 4.30 pm. Generally a comfortable hotel although a little dated. It was quite windy whilst we were there, so an indoor pool would be nice.

Penina Hotel is lovely and the staff are fabulous. It might be a little tired but as one guest said to me in the lift - she’s a grand old lady - maybe a little tired, but she gets the job done.

All the staff at Penina are the nicest people I’ve come across who continually go out of their way to make sure that everything during your stay is as amazing as it can possibly be.
